World Peace

I know that the idea sounds great, but I believe that it is truely impossible. Everyone will never agree with one another and not everyone will ever follow the rules. I love the beatles and I support John Lennon's spirit and passion for the issue, but it is not enough. I do agree with his sit-in's in Montreal, when him and his wife Yoko Ono stayed in their hotel room for a week and he said that if everyone was to just stay in bed for 5 minutes then in those 5 minutes there would be world peace. Yes, maybe it is true, but what happens after those 5 minutes. There are so many wars ongoing in the world right now, some even civil, some not. This notion of world peace is just impossible, because everyone will not be happy with one another. There are always dissagreements even since the beginning of time. It is human nature to be selffish, as Thomas Hobbes once said. People will want more land, more money or their religion to be dominate. It doesn't matter what the issue, the problem is there will always be an issue. Even as we speak there is a war going on in Iraq, and both sides think they are right. I would like to imagine a world without fighting, but it is just not possible. Some my call me a cynic, but I just think I'm realistic. Everyone always wants more, evenyone wants to be better off than their neighbor. I believe that it is good to have hope and to want something, but I just also think that goals must be in ones reach. Not everything is possible. Even if you stripped everyone is the world of everything, everyone was equal, there still would be no peace. People would still envy their neighbors, want their beauty, be jealous of their lover, just jealous! Thus, just a thought but I don't believe peace is possible. I would want it , but I know that humankind can never achieve it.

You are absolutely right. I wish for peace, but in many ways, I'm not sure it could ever happen. If people were okay with differences, live and let live, then maybe we could all share this planet and be in peace. But people can be selfish and materialistic. We are always reaching for what we don't have and missing out on what we do. We're always wanting what is just beyond our grasp. Maybe that's what Heaven is for.

You seem to enjoy reading, have you ever read a book titled Still Life with Woodpecker, by Tom Robbins ?
One of the main characters is an anarchist, he plans to disrupt a greanpeace type convention, in a twist his girlfriend thinks he plans to disrupt a convention of people who think aliens are on their way to save them.
He basically explains his choice like this, The people of the greanpeace type orginization will take good ideas and good notions about a very noble cause and process it through their own tunnel vision ( he goes through a diatribe of how this occurs ) and someone in the group will end up nailing spikes in trees to injure loggers who are just trying to feed their family, whereas the alien lovers accept they are leaving the planet and cause no harm to anyone because the idea is bigger than anyone in the group. I think about that alot lately, how many attrocities started out as techings of peace and acceptance.
